iHeartRadio Broadway is pleased to announce the creation of a special Saturday Matinee featuring the finalists for the 2020 Musical Theatre Songwriting Challenge. The Musical Theatre Songwriting Challenge is made possible through a partnership with the American Theatre wing, The National Endowment for the Arts, and with collaboration from Disney Theatrical Productions, NMPA S.O.N.G.S. Foundation, and Concord Theatricals; this national contest is for high school students with a passion for writing songs that could be a part of a musical theater production. Students across the nation compose music for the chance to be a finalist, showcase their musical theatre song, learn from musical theatre professionals, and have their song workshopped and recorded by professional Broadway performers and musicians.
During the iHeartRadio Broadway Songwriting Challenge Saturday Matinee listeners will get to hear all 12 tracks from the upcoming album: Ada Fender, “Great Grim Green”, Adam Jones, “A Father’s Fear/Mardi Gras”, Alejandro Rodriguez, “Days From Long Ago”, Chelsea Rose, “It’s Me, Dorothy”, Henry Crater, “Your World/Safe”, Jane Brinkley and Ashley Schmittle, “Just Another Night”, Joseph Mosby, “Light Breaks Through the Dark”, Leilani Patao, “Mauna Kea”, Sierra Blanco, “Don’t Wanna Know”, Soleil Singh, “Love in the Scene”, Viola Durfee, “Free”, and Xyzsa Pagaduan, “Left-over Love”. Listeners will also hear from the American Theatre Wing, The National Endowment for the Arts and feature some of the Broadway talent that mentored and performed the finalists’ songs: Michael R. Jackson, Rachel Zegler, Patrick Sulken, and Rose Van Dyne.
The iHeartRadio Broadway Musical Theatre Songwriting Challenge Saturday Matinee will air on Saturday, April 3rd at 2pm ET. Listeners can tune in to iHeartRadio Broadway by visiting iHeartRadioBroadway.com or by downloading the free iHeart App and searching “Broadway.”
