American Theatre Wing and Design Action Launch Springboard to Design
Exploring the process of theatrical collaboration and the many opportunities and career paths in the field of American theatre design for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, MENA, Asian and People of Color (BIPOC) high school students.
In partnership with Design Action, the American Theatre Wing is thrilled to launch Springboard to Design, a program whose mission is to encourage and mentor Black, Indigenous, Latinx, MENA, Asian and People of Color (BIPOC) students in the process of theatrical collaboration and the many avenues of American Theatre design, as well as the viable career paths that stem from them. Instructors will consist of award-winning artists, who will create a collaborative environment for students, as they explore costume, set, lighting, projection, and sound design.
Springboard to Design aims to provide students with access to theatre education they may not otherwise receive. Therefore, no prior experience is required to participate. Applicants with an interest in sewing, fashion, drawing, painting, building, creating, and storytelling are highly encouraged to apply. Students who already have a love for theater but don’t know where they fit in are also encouraged. For the program’s first year, applications will be open to all high school students, and 20 high school students will be selected to participate. Classes will take place virtually from 9am-12pm ET during the week of July 12th-16th, 2021. For more information on the program, FAQs, and how to apply, please click here
