The Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts partnering with the American Theatre Wing and in collaboration with Playbill, Inc. and Disney Theatrical Productions. The Songwriting Challenge is a national competition for high school students who have a passion for writing songs that could be part of a musical theater production. This program offers six semi-finalists mentorship opportunities with professional songwriters and musicians and the opportunity to have an original song performed by those musicians.

The finalists will be awarded a scholarship and more. The application portal is open now and must be submitted before January 12, 2018. Six regional semi-finalists will be announced in February and the national competition among the six regional semi-finalists will be held in April in New York City.
