With Generous Support from the Edwin Barbey Charitable Trust

“My family and I are passionate about closing the gap between talent and opportunity. It has been thrilling to be a founding funder of this Initiative and to have helped sow the seeds of change. It is very clear to me that with additional investment, the tested slate of programs that make up the ALWI have the potential to jumpstart generational change, and pave the way for a long-term transformation of the theatre industry. It is my great hope that others who share my desire to see this change will come on board and help provide the additional investment needed to ensure the full realization of this important goal.” – Pamela Barbey

Thanks to a new $1M investment from the Edwin Barbey Charitable Trust, a matching challenge has been launched to raise an additional $1M for the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative over the next two years. With this expanded support, by 2025 the American Theatre Wing will be able to reach 75 public schools and 60,000 K-12 students, provide 125 students with training scholarships, help send 25 to university to study theatre and theatre administration, and through mentoring opportunities pave the way for an infusion of hundreds of new underrepresented professionals into the theatre industry.

Be Part of The Change

Make a contribution towards this match today to show your commitment to a next generation of theatre artists, creatives, and arts administrators who reflect the country and world we are living in. Here’s what your donation can support:

  • $50,000 will support four years of college tuition for an emerging artist in financial need
  • $25,000 will provide students at a Title I K-12 school with resources to create or enhance in-school theatre programs
  • $10,000 will support one year of college tuition for an emerging artist in financial need
  • $5,000 will make it possible for an under-resourced middle or high school student to attend a private coaching or conservatory training program
  • Any amount you can give will make an invaluable difference in the life of a young artist!

The Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative (ALWI) was created in 2016 with seed funding from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation to aid and abet systemic change in the American Theatre by infusing new resources into the theatre ecosystem in order to bolster the pipeline for underrepresented talent on stage and off. Through Classroom Resource Grants and Training and University Scholarships, this Initiative directly addresses several key systemic issues that create obstacles in the theatre education and training pipeline.
