ROMAN PASKA lives in NYC, where his work was first presented by Charles Ludlam at the Playhouse of the Ridiculous. From the early 1980's, inspired by the puppet theatre of China, Japan and especially Indonesia, he created and performed a series of solo works called Theatre for the Birds. A trilogy of his "little mental dramas" - Line of Flight; Uccelli, the Drugs of Love and The End of the World - were successively presented in theatres and festivals throughout the world, establishing his parallel reputation as a solo performance artist and puppeteer. His group productions, many of which also toured internationally, include original adaptations of Yeats' The Shadowy Waters (Abbey Theatre, Dublin), Strindberg's Ghost Sonata (Stockholm), Lorca's Yerma (Seville), his own Moby Dick in Venice (in three versions: Porto, Perth, New York); God Mother Radio (Paris, based on Marlowe's Massacre at Paris); and arden/Ardennes (Avignon, based on Shakespeare's As You Like It). In the 1990's, four of his productions were presented at the Henson International Festival at the Public in New York. Other venues have included the Santarcangelo and Polverigi Festivals, Teatro Goldoni (Venice), Teatro di Roma, Théâtre Vidy (Lausanne), Theater im Künstlerhaus (Vienna), London Mime Festival, Avignon Festival, Söderteatern (Stockholm), Espace Kiron and Théâtre du Rond-Point (Paris). Fragments of his theatre work can be seen in John Turturro's film Illuminata.
