MARSHALL W. MASON (Director) has directed twelve productions on Broadway, four of which earned Tony Awards (Talley's Folly, Best Set Design; Fifth of July, Best Supporting Actress; Burn This, Best Actress; and Redwood Curtain, Best Supporting Actress.) Mr. Mason has been nominated five times for the Tony Award for Best Director (Knock Knock, Talley's Folly, Fifth of July, Angels Fall and As Is). Off-Broadway, he received five Obie awards for Best Director (THE HOT L BALTIMORE, Battle of Angels, The Mound Builders, Serenading Louie and Knock Knock) and a sixth Obie for Sustained Achievement. Mr. Mason was the Founding Artistic Director of New York's seminal Circle Repertory Company, whose resident playwrights included Lanford Wilson, Tennessee Williams, Sam Shepard, David Mamet, Marsha Norman, Craig Lucas, Jon Robin Baitz, Jules Feiffer, William Mastrosimone, Albert Innaurato, William Hoffman, John Bishop and Herb Gardner. Acting members included William Hurt, Kathy Bates, Christopher Reeve, Jeff Daniels, Debra Monk, David Morse, Judith Ivey, Judd Hirsch, Conchata Ferrell, Brad Dourif, Jonathan Hadary, Barnard Hughes, Fritz Weaver, Patricia Wettig, Mary MacDonald, Timothy Busfield, Lindsay Crouse, Farley Granger, and Beatrice Straight. Circle Rep designers included John Lee Beatty, Dennis Parichy and Laura Crow. Mr. Mason is the recipient of the Margo Jones Award, the Theater World Award, the Last Frontier Award, the Inge Festival Award and the Piscator Award. Currently Professor of Theater at Arizona State University, Mr. Mason was the recipient of a special "Mr. Abbott Award" as one of the most innovative and influential directors of the 20th Century. His collaborations with Lanford Wilson span nearly four decades, beginning with Balm in Gilead in 1964, and are recognized as the most enduring collaboration in the American theater.
