Lonette McKee
LONETTE McKEE exploded onto the screen, making her film debut playing the role of Sister in the cult movie Sparkle for which she received critical acclaim. Other films include The Cotton Club and Gardens of Stone both for Francis Coppola, Brewster's Millions and Which Way Is Up opposite Richard Pryor, Illusions for Julie Dash and Cuba. Lonette got raves for her rendition of "How Long Has This Been Going On" in the Bertrand Tavenier film Round Midnight. She recently appeared in Jungle Fever and Malcolm X for Spike Lee. Lonette has written and produced several albums including her latest entitled Natural Love distributed by Columbia Records. For TV, Lonette has appeared in the miniseries Women of Brewster Place and Queen. Lonette is proud to return to Show Boat, having previously performed the role of Julie in the Houston Grand Opera production for which she received a Tony nom. Lonette made her Broadway debut in The First. Playing to sold out houses and rave reviews, she earned a Drama Desk nom. for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. She has performed her solo act in concert in NY and around the world, and has studied voice with Dini Clark and dance with Sarah Tayir. She and partner Bryant McNeil have formed their own record label and film production company and plan to write, direct and produce films, records and novels. Lonette loves all animals and nature, feeling a special connection to birds. She is working to establish wildlife sanctuaries and will continue to further the causes of animal rights and physically challenged people. She hopes to one day establish theme parks, which she will dedicate to her beloved sister Carol who has cerebral palsy, that will educate children and adults about our precious wildlife, and to encourage them to appreciate, respect and nurture animals.
