John Springer
JOHN SPRINGER (Press Agent) A member of ATPAM since 1968, Springer repped numerous stage and screen actors as well as theatrical productions and films. Among his theatrical credits are: David Henry Hwang's Tony Award-winning M. Butterfly, La Bete, Accomplice, Lynn Redgrave's Shakespeare For My Father, Irene, starring Debbie Reynolds The Blue Light Theater Company's Golden Boy directed by Joanne Woodward, Scenes From An Execution, Treasure Island, Equus and twelve Broadway productions for Tony Randall's National Actors Theater, featuring such stars as George C. Scott, Charles Durning, Julie Harris, Martin Sheen, Michael York, Mercedes Ruehl and Tyne Daly. Springer began his professional PR career in 1948 when he started with RKO pictures as head of magazine publicity. After a similar stop at Twentieth Century Fox, Springer ventured out on his own. Among the personalities he repped during this time were Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Montgomery Clift, Bette Davis, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Preston, Rosalind Russell, Grace Kelly, Lauren Bacall, Gary Cooper, Michael Redgrave and Henry Fonda among many more. A few of his many film credits include Bonnie and Clyde, Midnight Cowboy, A Man For All Seasons, Amarcord, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Graduate, Seven Beauties, and Z. Springer was also a noted film historian, author and originator of the format of Tribute Evenings to great film stars. His series of Citadel books are considered Film Book Classics. Born April 25, 1916, died October 30, 2001.
