John Rockwell
JOHN ROCKWELL began his journalistic career at the Oakland Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. In 1972 he began writing at the New York Times. For the New York Times, Rockwell was a classical music critic, music editor, chief rock critic, the European cultural correspondent, chief dance critic and the editor of the Sunday Arts and Leisure section. He is an author, with titles including All American Music: Composition in the Late 20th Century, a National Book Critics? Circle Award nominee; and Sinatra: An American Classic. He also contributed to the New Grove Dictionary of Opera and the Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock and Roll. He left the Times at the end of 2006 to pursue independent projects.
