Jack Cummings III
JACK CUMMINGS III currently serves as Artistic Director of Transport Group, a New York theatre company devoted to plays and musicals, both revivals and premieres, that deal with American life in the 20th and 21st centuries. This past season, Jack directed the first New York revival of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, All The Way Home, by Tad Mosel and the 50th Anniversary production of Willliam Inge's classic, The Dark at The Top of the Stairs, starring Tony Award winner Michele Pawk. In 2005, Jack conceived and directed the critically acclaimed musical The Audience, for which he received a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Director of a Musical. The Audience also received Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Lighting Design. Other Transport Group credits include Tony nominee John Cariani's world premiere play, cul-de-sac, the world premiere musical Normal by Yvonne Adrian, Cheryl Stern, and Tom Kochan, Our Town, Requiem for William (which he also conceived), and Michael John LaChiusa's First Lady Suite which was nominated for two Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical - Mary Testa. Transport Group is the recipient of a 2007 Drama Desk Award for its "breadth of vision and presentation of challenging productions" as well as a 2007 Obie Award for Performance - Donna Lynne Champlin in The Dark at the Top of the Stairs. Regional credits include Violet (named Best Director and Best Musical Production by Virginia's Style Magazine), Carousel, She Loves Me, and The Young Man From Atlanta for The Barksdale Theatre in Richmond, Virginia; Disorder: A Mother/Daughter Vaudeville for Barrington Stage Company; Tony Kushner's adaptation of The Illusion for Nevada Theatre Company; A Streetcar Named Desire (starring Tony nominee Barbara Walsh as Blanche) for The Gretna Theatre in Pennsylvania; and Songs for a New World for ABCD Productions at George St. Playhouse. Jack received his MFA in Directing from The University of Virginia and his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from The College of William and Mary. He is married to actress Barbara Walsh.
