Garth Drabinsky
GARTH DRABINSKY's creative leadership has earned him the reputation as one of the theatre's most respected producers. His celebrated live stage productions have spanned the realm of classical and contemporary drama, dance, opera and Broadway musicals, and have been presented around the world. The quality of productions bearing the Drabinsky imprimatur has been recognized with an astounding 61 Tony Award nominations and 19 Tony wins. His production of Kander & Ebb's Kiss of the Spider Woman won three Tonys, including Best Musical, and was also awarded the London Evening Standard Drama Award for Best Musical for its West End staging. The Tony Award for Best Musical was also awarded to Drabinsky's innovative musical, Fosse, based on the life and work of the great Bob Fosse. Drabinsky's acclaimed revival of Show Boat earned the Tony for Best Musical Revival, and his production of Barrymore earned a Best Actor Tony Award for Christopher Plummer's performance of theatre legend John Barrymore. The Toronto production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera became the longest running musical in Canadian theatre history. Other productions include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Donny Osmond, Sunset Boulevard and Ragtime, the epic musical based on E. L. Doctorow's classic novel. Drabinsky is also the Genie Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated producer of several motion pictures. Throughout his illustrious career, Drabinsky has been at the forefront of championing the performing arts in Canada. He is the originator and Executive Producer of Triple Sensation.
