Ann Duquesnay
ANN DUQUESNAY, pronounced Du-kay-nay, won the Tony Award and Drama League Award and was a Grammy nominee (co-composer/lyricist) for Broadway's Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk. Other B'way credits are Jelly's Last Jam (Gran Mimi), the revival of The Wiz (Glinda the Good Witch), and Blues in the Night. She has performed the roles of blues singer Alberta Hunter in Cookin' at the Cookery at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Ma Rainey in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom at the Denver Center Theatre, and Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Theatre on the Square in San Francisco, for which she received the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award. She has performed internationally in Paris, London, Holland, Italy, and Japan, and extensively in the United States. Her numerous theatrical credits include Houston Grand Opera's productions of Porgy and Bess (Maria) and The Outcast (High Priestess of Moab); House of Flowers (Madame Fleur) at the Denver Center Theatre; and Black Nativity at the Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C., with a command performance for Pope John Paul II at Vatican City, Rome, Italy. She collaborated with George C. Wolfe on NYSF's production of Spunk, also performing the role of the Blues Speaking Woman, for which she received an AUDELCO Award. Other credits: One Life to Live and Another World, the voice of Hip Cat on PBS-TV Reading Rainbow, narrator of Aretha Franklin's autobiography audio book, Aretha-From These Roots. Ms. Duquesnay has also performed a tribute to Billie Holiday at Rainbow and Stars.
